Henrique Gomide is one of the leading names in the new generation of Brazilian pianists.
He plays in projects like Caixa Cubo (BBC Best Albums of 2020), Mathias Schriefl Brazilian Motions, Choro Trio, Duo Oltheten Gomide, Juliana da Silva 4tet, Ayça Miraç 4tet and others.
Henrique Gomide was born in São Paulo in 1988 and has a broad musical background. After completing his classical piano studies at ULM and Universidade de São Paulo (USP), Gomide received a scholarship from the Royal Conservatory of The Hague (Netherlands) to pursue an MA in jazz piano, which he completed in 2014. He currently lives in Cologne (Germany) and obtained a second master's degree in jazz composition and arrangement from the Hochschule für Musik und Tanz Köln in 2018, with a specialization in big band arrangement.
Throughout his education, Gomide studied jazz piano with Geri Allen, Juraj Stanik, Michele Rosewoman, Oscar Perez and classical piano with Hermes Jacchieri, José Eduardo Martins, Paulo Álvares and David Witten, among others. With his piano trio Caixa Cubo , which has its origins in São Paulo, he released 6 CDs and performed in hundreds of concerts in Brazil, France, Germany, Denmark, Belgium, Netherlands, England and Mozambique.
Together with his partner, Daphne Oltheten, Gomide forms the Duo Oltheten-Gomide, which has recorded two CDs with works by Beethoven, Mozart, Schubert, Brahms and contemporary Brazilian composers. As a pianist he also participates in other projects such as Nau Trio, Ayca Mirac Quartet and Juliana da Silva Band all of which are active throughout Germany.
As an arranger, Gomide directs the Henrique Gomide Big Band and has written arrangements for bands such as the Subway Jazz Orchestra (Cologne), the Banda Urbana (São Paulo), the Big Band of the Royal Conservatory of The Hague (Netherlands) and the Big Band of the Hochschule für Musik und Tanz Köln (Germany).
During his graduate studies, Gomide wrote a dissertation on the Brazilian composer and stringed instrument virtuoso Aníbal Augusto Sardinha, also known as Garoto (1915-1955). Since then he has been involved in several projects aimed at spreading Garoto's music around the world. He is one of the authors of the songbook Choros de Garoto (IMS - SESC Editions), which contains 67 compositions by Garoto. He is also on the musical direction of the first documentary about Garoto Garoto - Vivo Sonhando ) which will be released in September 2020. In 2016, Henrique worked as the musical director for the tribute show Garoto 100 Anos , which took place in Sesc Pinheiros (Sao Paulo, Brazil). She brought together important Brazilian musicians such as Guinga, Yamandu Costa and Paulo Bellinati.
Throughout his career, Henrique has played with well-known musicians such as Bart van Lier, Tony Lakatos, Nailor Proveta, Teco Cardoso, Vinicius Dorin, Paulo Bellinati, Toninho Carrasqueira, Monica Salmaso, Celio Barros, Marku Ribas, Gabi Guedes, John Ruocco and Andrea di Biase , to name just a few.
